When lighting your candle for the first time allow the wax to melt to the sides of the jar – soy candles have a memory and this will ensure the candle burns consistently each time it is lit.

Only burn candles for 3 to 4 hours and remember to trim the wick to 5mm before you light the candle again.

Although there is a safety label on each candle it is always best to follow these simple rules when burning candles.

I hope these tips help to prolong the life of your candle – however the list is not exhaustive so please use common sense as well!

  • Keep the wax pool clear of any debris including matches and wick trimmings.
  • Do not handle or move a burning candle.
  • Never burn a candle on or near anything that can catch fire.
  • Always place candles on heat resistant surfaces and away from other heat sources.
  • Never leave burning candles unattended.
  • Keep children and pets away from lit candles.
  • Never burn a candle right down to the end – always extinguish 15 mm from the base.
  • Place candles at least 10 cm apart from one another.
  • Burn candles in a well-ventilated room and away from drafts.
  • Extinguish a candle if the flame becomes too high or flickers repeatedly.
  • Extinguish a candle if the container becomes too hot and has more than 1cm of melted wax.
  • Never use a candle as a night light.

To extinguish a candle:

  • Use a candle snuffer.
  • Never use water to extinguish a candle.
  • Make sure the candle is fully extinguished before leaving the room.
  • Do not handle the candle until it has completely cooled.
  • Never use a knife or sharp object to remove wax drippings from a glass holder.
